Designing the future of learning:  where education, innovation, and investment meet

Join us for an insightful panel discussion featuring leaders from K–12 education, higher education, and state funding organizations as they explore the evolving environment of innovative academic spaces. This cross-sector conversation will delve into current trends shaping learning environments, from innovative architectural approaches that support flexible, inclusive pedagogy to the systems-level strategies influencing long-term planning and funding priorities. Attendees will gain a deeper understanding of how educational goals, design thinking, and policy intersect to drive the future of academic spaces.

Rosie Dudley

Rosie Dudley, AICP

Director, UNM Campus Capital & Space Planning

Rosie Dudley, AICP, is a seasoned urban designer and planner with more than 28 years of experience spanning the private, public, and nonprofit sectors. With degrees in Architecture and City Planning, she brings expertise in campus planning, city and regional planning, and urban design, from complete streets to development standards and space guidelines.  

At the University of New Mexico, where she has served as Senior Planner, University Planner, and now Director of Campus Capital & Space Planning, she has strengthened processes around historic preservation, asset management, and space utilization, and led major planning efforts including the College of Fine Arts Framework Plan and the Integrated Campus Plan. Her broader work across the U.S. and internationally focuses on protecting cultural, historic, and natural resources while shaping vibrant, walkable, and economically resilient communities. Grounded in cultural sensitivity and innovation, Rosie is passionate about creating meaningful, resource-efficient places and is especially committed to preserving and evolving UNM’s campus for future generations.

Executive Director, Albuquerque Public Schools, Capital Construction / Director Facilities Design + Construction 

Karen Alarid is the Executive Director of Facilities, Design and Construction for Albuquerque Public Schools (APS), where she leads the district’s Facilities Design & Construction division, including oversight of real estate, capital planning, and project delivery. She is a native New Mexican and a registered architect who earned a B.F.A. in Architecture from the University of New Mexico. 

Albuquerque Public Schools oversees one of the largest portfolios of public buildings in New Mexico, encompassing millions of square feet of educational facilities, administrative offices, and support buildings. Under Ms. Alarid’s direction, APS continues to advance sustainable, high-performance school design by integrating green building principles and locally adapted design standards aligned with LEED v4 and other best practices in sustainable school construction and renovation.

Larry P. Tillotson (LT)

Deputy Director, NM Public School Facilities Authority, Operations, Outreach, & Quality Assurance

Larry has been with the NMPSFA since 2011, serving in many capacities, including M&O Specialist and M&O Manager (2016), and consulting & assisting NM school districts in developing strategies to improve district maintenance and operations programs, facility conditions, and the maintenance of the state's capital investments. Advancing to the role of Deputy Director of Operations, Outreach and Quality Assurance, he plays a pivotal role in driving the agency’s continued operational excellence, enhancing productivity and public-school customer relations across the State of NM, with the ultimate goal of positively impacting and improving public school learning environments through a plethora of capital outlay programs.  Through data-driven methodologies, strategic planning, and performance improvement, he provides support and guidance through policy and best practices in all aspects of the agency's operations.  LT is a Certified Building Operator and Energy Manager.
